Mr and Mrs D. L. Patterson, of Oamaru, are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mrs G. M. Ilugonin, Kaikoura, is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr and Mrs M’Gee, of Timaru, are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Lady Stringer has returned to Auckland from Christchurch. Mrs T. F. Gibson (Fendalton) is on. a • visit to Dunedin, where she is the guest of Mrs Aufrere Fenwick. Mrs V. E. Hamilton, of Christchurch, is visiting Auckland, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. To conclude Health Week celebrations, the Dairymen’s Association will hold a dance at Jellicoe Hall to-night. Misses Gladys and Alice Nathan and Miss Myler, of Wellington, are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs M. H. Godby, who is playing in the golf tournament at Palmerston North this week, will visit Wanganui before returning to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs A. R. V. Morten and family (“ Stonycroft,” Mount Pleasant), who are at present in Europe, expect to return to New Zealand at the end of the year. An enjoyable variety party was given recently by the ladies of the distract in honour of Miss Elva Stephens, of Waddington, whose marriage takes place shortly. Musical items were given and a competition was won by Mrs A. Mason. After tea was dispensed, the parcels were opened and a collection of both dainty and useful gifts was received by the bride-elect. On the occasion of her marriage. Miss Hazel Hay was entertained at afternoon tea by the staff of Bunting and Co., Ltd. In appreciation of her twelve years' service the firm presented her with a canteen of cutlery, a separate presentation being also made by the office and warehouse staff, and factory. Mention was made of the high esteem in which Miss Hay was held.

The monthly meeting of the North Linwood Free Kindergarten Committee was held in the school hall. Those present were:—Mesdames Jarden (in the chair), Retallick, Stewart, Powell, Caldcr and Taylor. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Baker and Mardon. Small accounts were passed for payment. Mrs Gabites, a member of the Parents, Committee, visited the meeting. Miss Martin reported that a great deal of minor sickness in the district had affected the attendance. Mesdames Powell and Stewart were appointed to visit the school this month. The sum of £1 9s 4d was received for the first three weeks of this term.
