MEMORIAL CARILLON FOR WELLINGTON CITY DUE EARLY IN YEAR.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 11. Speaking about the Memorial Carillon, the chairman of the committee (Mr H. D- Bennett) stated to-day that the North East Exhibition at New-castle-on-Tyne (England) was, according to his advices, closing down at the end of the present month, which would mean that the carillon would then be dismantled and restored to the care of its manufacturers (Messrs Gillett and Johnson, of Croydon). Mr Bennett said that the proposal he had received from the High Commissioner in London (Sir James Parr) to have the bells suspended in Hyde Park, London, to which the local committee had given its consent subject to the usual safeguards, had not developed. He assumed that the bells would be dismantled, packed and shipped out to New Zealand, and might reach here early in the New Year.
