RANGIORA COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING.

The County Council met yesterday, present—Messrs W. Stalker, chairman, G. K. Crysell, H. Tallott, A. M’lntosh, J. Young, J. Brosnan. The foreman reported the following work had been completed since last meeting: A small culvert in lieu of pipes was put in on Mount Thomas Road a length of 70 feet. The Hill Road, Cust Riding, was repaired and approaches built up. Two sets of 9-inch pipes were put in on Tolls Road, Coldstream. One set of 12-inch pipes of 33 feet long was put in on the Woodend Beach Road. The Mount Thomas metalling contract was finished and the contractors were carrying on with extensions of contract on Downs Road from Fernside Church to Bailey’s. Patching and tractor grading was being carried on as usual. The report was adopted. The secretary to the WaimakaririAshley Water Supply Board wrote complaining of a large quantity of storm water which flows with the main water race adjacent to the Mairaki Downs Road, Fernside and causes flooding of property lower down, and asking that a representative of the council meet Mr Waller, representative of the board, at the spot complained of, and inspect the matter. _ ... _ It was decided that Councillor Brosnan and the foreman meet Mr Waller as requested. The Town Clerk, Christchurch, wrote stating that owing to lack of support of local bodies, the proposal to establish a free ambulance service on the lines of the Wellington service has been dropped. _ Mr A. Wells-Newton, clerk to the Eyre County Council, wrote regarding bridging of the water course, crossing the North Eyre Road near Bennetts, and asking if the council is prepared to pay half the cost, as it is a boundary road It was decided to inspect the site and report to next meeting of the council. A further letter was received from the clerk to the Eyre County Council advising that the work of improving Dixon’s Ford would shortly be put in hand. The chairman and the member for the Cust Riding were appointed to inspect the place. Mr R. N. Cosgriff, secretary to the Cust Progress Association, wrote drawing the attention of the council to the dangerous speed of motor-cars through the township and asking that notice boards be repainted and placed m more conspicuous positions. It was decided to have the boards repainted, limiting the speed to twenty ml Mr*P. R. Climie wrote thanking the council for their annual donation of £2O towards the Progress League’s funds. The Town Clerk, Rangiora, wrote drawing the attention of the council to the state of Green Street, pointing out that it was not a boundary road, but belonged entirely to the county. The chairman and Councillor M’lntosh were appointed to look into the matter. An application from the Rangiora High School for their annual grant of £ls was received.—Granted. It was also decided to make a grant of £1 Is to the North Canterbury District Bay Committee. It was decided not to accede to the request of the Rangiora branch of the Workers’ Educational Association for a The Church Property Trustees wrote advising that they are prepared to contribute £l5O towards the cost of clearing the Cam River. The letter was received. Mr H. W. Harris, resident engineer, Waimakariri River Trust, wrote stating that plans for M’Grath s Bridge (Mam Drain) were in course of preparation, and as soon as completed would be forwarded to the council for its approval. Mr F. Langbein, board’s representative on District Highways Council, wrote stating that the Main Highways Board will agree to pay a subsidy towards the cost of maintaining a detour road between Kaiapoi and Waikuku during the period when the main road is closed for paving. _ It was decided to suggest to fhe Highways Board, as the route fixed by them will soon not be available, that the Tuahiwi Revels Road be subsidised. The financial statement for the month of September was: Receipts £547 5s 7d, and payments £892 11s lOd. The bank debit balance being £2456 12s 6d.
