HEAVY BUSINESS SHEET FOR MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL.

The following business will come up for consideration by the council at its meeting on Monday evening next:— Further consideration to be given to the question- of the council joining in with the proposed Municipal Insurance Scheme. Notice of motion having been given, the question ,of closing dance halls on Saturday evenings at 11.30 will again receive consideration. The question of municipal trading, more particularly as regards the electricity department, will be discussed. Several protests in connection with the removal of the iron fence around Sydenham Park will be considered. A report from the Special Committee, consisting of representatives from the council, the Tramway Board and the “Save the Square” Committee in reference to the Cathedral Square proposals will be received. Particulars of planting carried out at Bottle Lake dtiring the past season will be given. Proposal will be considered to extend the area leased to the Barrington Tennis Club. Consideration will be given to Dr Pearson’s report on the tests carried out by him on samples of milk collected in the city over a period of six months. Special charges for the use of the Concert Hall on Saturday and holiday nights will be considered. The question of the city being included in the special rating area, over which the Tramway Board proposes striking a rate to pay its proportion of the cost of the New Brighton bridge, will be considered. Parking regulations in Cambridge Terrace between Gloucester and Tuam Streets will be considered. Consideration will be given to the Urban Farm Lands Rating Bill. Proposed new building by-law as it affects areas and frontages of sections and the question of making the by-law uniform throughout the whole city, will be considered. The Town Planning Committee has decided that except in places where business areas have already been definitely established, all streets fronting on . to the river are to be reserved for residential purposes. A similar decision has been made in respect of certain areas in the central portion of the city which are at present outside the existing business area. Estimates for completing the formation of the boulevard between Woodham Road and the east end of Retreat Road will be considered. At present ninety men are engaged on relief works, but this number will be reduced during the next fortnight. The concreting of Waltham Road has been completed with the exception of the intersection of Mowbray Street. Proceedings are to be taken agajnst householders who fail to comply with notices served upon them to construct asphalt crossings in cases where footpaths have recently been asphalted. Tenders for conversion of quarry truck tyres from solids to pneumatic will be considered. The appointment of Medical Board will Vie dealt with. Tenders for plastering Viand rotunda and balustrade wall will be received.
