CHRISTCHURCH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP.

The final of the Christchurch club championship was played at Shirley today between E. M. Macfarlane and E. J. Pumphrey over 36 holes. Macfarlane won, 5 up. and 3. MOB Niua KOUITO. The first.—Macfarlane reached the green in two and Pumphrey in three. Macfarlane won in 4. The second.—Pumphrey had the better drive and reached the green in two. Macfarlane’s drive was in rough and he took 3 to the green. Pumphrey holed a good 3 for a win. Holes three and four were halved in 3 and 5 respectively. The fifth.—Both took 3 to reach the green. Pumphrey's approach, putt was too strong and he took 6 to Macfarlane’s 5. No. 6—Pumphrey's second found the ditch and the hole cost him 6 to Macfarlane’s 4. No. 7—Pumphrey had a six-foot put and a stymie to negotiate to save the hole, but he failed and Macfarlane won in 4. The eighth.—Macfarlane had a lucky win at this hole through Pumphrey's putt putting him in, to win in 4 to Pumphrey's 5. Ho s nine and ten were both won by Pumphrey, Macfarlane missing easy putts at each hole. The eleventh. —Macfarlane’s second found a bunker, but a good recovery enabled him to halve in a. Kitto’s long-standing record by winning the club championship five times.

HAGLEY CLUB. The Hagley links were closed this afternoon when a mixed Canadian foursome was played. Miss Fleming and T. D. Harman were the winners. Afer the match prizes won during the season were presented by the patron, Mrs Geo. Harris. The president, Mr T. D. HAGLEY LADIES' CLUB. The sealed hole match played yesterday afternoon was won by Mrs C. F. Smith, and the stroke competition by Mrs F. b. Hale. MID-CANTERBURY TOURNEY. TWO CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS. For the first time in its history, the Ashburton Golf Club will hold a championship tournament on its links, consent having been obtained from the Ntew Zealand Golf Council to hold a two-day tournament on October 26 and 27. Dr G. J. S. Fisher (president of the club) has donated a handsome challenge cup for competition in the senior event, which will carry the Mid-Canterbury championship. This event will be over thirty-six holes, and will be played on October 27 For tho junior championship, which will b<e for players with a handicap of ten and over, Mr R. J. Tucker has given a cup Two medal rounds will be played In conjunction with the above events, a teams’ match having been decided upon for the afternoon round. This will be open to any four members of the same club, and will be played under handicap. A four-ball bogey match will be played on October 26, players to arrange their own partners. On the evening of that day an entertainment will be held in the clubhouse. The greens are in excellent order, and the ’ fairways hav»e been improved by the use of a triplex mower. The club possesses a. beautiful nine-hole course, which presents an attractive appearance at this time of the year. It iB the intention of the club to make the tournament an annual fixture. The time of commencement of matches will be arra’nged, where possible, to suit visitors from a distance, who will compete in matches on October 27 only. RANGIORA CLUB.
