BANKRUPTCY OF A MOTOR-CAR PAINTER.

A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of George Ward Foster, motor-car painter, Christchurch, was held to-day, the Official Assignee, Mr A. W. Watters presiding. The bankrupt, who was represented by Mr H. S. J. Goodman, was not present, his state of health not permitting his attendance.

The unsecured debts totalled £BB3 9s Gd, and the assets were set at £260 4s 2d, leaving a deficiency of £623 5s 4d. The secured creditors totalled £1487 15s lOd, the estimated value of the securities being £I7OO. The principal unsecured creditors were: J. W. Booth £54 13s. No sworn statement was put in by bankrupt. The secured creditors were Thomas Marker £l2lO 4s 9d, and Miss M. Currie, £277 11s Id.

The Assignee said that the position appeared to be very simple. He suggested that no action should be taken in respect to the freehold properties, leaving the mortgagees to take action. The lease of bankrupt’s premises should be surrendered at once.

It was stated that a private meeting of the creditors had decided not to take the bankrupt’s furniture. The estate was left in the hands of the Official Assignee, it being agreed not to contest Mrs Foster’s claim to the furniture and motor-car.
