PUSHING ON WITH PREPARATIONS FOR WINTER SHOW.

START WILL BE MADE TO-MORROW WITH THE ERECTION OF STALLS.

To-morrow morning, the King Edward Barrack? will be handed over to the winter show exhibitors, and the big exhibition will begin to take shape. All construction work has been completed, and the provision of the additional 'ighting services has been commenced To-day, workmen have been busy P e £gi n g out the locations of the variou° stalls in preparation for the army of carpenters who will soon be in possession. The annexe. 550 ft by 37ft. is larger than any annexe previouslv 'erected In it will be housed all the district and most of the remainder of the primary exhibits, as well as the side shows. The district bays are so large—they are small exhibitions in themselves—that it was found difficult to display them in the main buildine without interference from the big gir 1 ers that support thf> roof. For that reason, they have been transferred to the annexe, where it will be possible to display them without anything imped ing the view. The whole of the bar racks proper will be taken up with the secondary industry displays. The exhi bits this year will be 95 per cent New Zealand, and will constitute the most comprehensive collection ever gathered together in Christchurch. The side shows will be more varied in character than has been the case at orevious show«=. Most of the warm fa vourites. such as the merry go-round, etc., will he found again and there wT he a number of novelties. A commencement was made to-dav with the putting down of the flooring for the exhibits in the annexe. A tremendous amount of w T ork will have to be done before the goods can be displayed. but it is anticipated that from to-morrow an army of workmen will be engaged. The annexe has been made wider this year. Besides giving greater space, this has the effect of carrying the outer wall past the crown of the road In past years a good deal of trouble was caused in wet weather bv the rain from f hc road flowing into the annexe. By carrying the wall out past the crown of the road, the executive hope to avoid that trouble this year. The show will be opened next Satur day night. Efforts are being made to persuade Sir Joseph Ward to visit Christchurch to declare it open.
