THE BISHOP APPEALS FOR MONEY AND FOOD.
To th© Editor. Dear Sir, —May I beg your kindness to make it known that in response to an appeal for help from the unmarried unemployed the Evangelistic and Social Council of the Church of England in the Diocese of Christchurch has decided to open a room where single unemployed men may get a hot meal each day. We are convinced that many of them are suffering great hardships. In the work available a preference is given and rightly given to married men or single men with dependents. We are acting after consultation with the Mayor and others, and confidently appeal to our people for help in money and food to meet a pressing need. Donations of money may be sent to the secretary, the Rev P. Revell, 62, Springfield Road; and on and after Tuesday, July 0, gifts of produce may be sent to the “Meal Room.” St Luke’s Sunday School, Manchester Street.—l am, etc., C. CHRISTCHURCH. Bishopscourt, July 5.
