MOVIE APPARATUS AT LIBERTY THEATRE HAS HIGH STANDARD.
Having attended Liberty Theatre last evening, Mr D. Casey, Australian sales director for Universal Films, said to-day that he was greatly impressed with the sound-producing apparatus in that theatre. lie was convinced that it was equal to the best he had heard in Australia. In view of his experience at Liberty Theatre, Mr Casey has had no hesitation in entering into an arrangement with Cinemas, Limited, Christchurch, for the exhibition of super-movietone sound and dialogue productions in this city. The first of these will be “Give and Take,” which, he states, has been rem'”- 1 "'* * successful in * " as well as in other countries. Another big movie-tone picture for Christchurch is “ The Show Boat.” It will be the first big all-musical product’ n. with the music of the original musical comedy, which ran in Drury Lane, London, for two years. Songs sung by the original players of “ Zeigfeld’s Follies,” Broadway, are reproduced. This picture will demonstrate what can be done in this new and notable form of entertainment in respect to placing musical comedy on the screen, as produced originally. It is reported that Laurn La Plante has put into “The Show Boat” her best work. “ Broadway,” “ King Jazz,” “ The Barnstormers,” and “ The Last Performance,” are other super-productions. Mr Casey states that the voice of popular Reginald Denny, who will make four of these big pictures, comes out splendidl y.
