DOMINION ATHLETE HAS FINE RECORD.

W. G. KALAUGHER PROVES ALL-ROUND PERFORMER. W. G. Kalaugher, the New Zealand Rhodes Scholar, of Balliol College, Oxford, had a very full football season. In the early part of the season he played wing-three-quarter for his college in the “Cuppers,” and the team went through the competition unbeaten, winning the college championship for the first time since 1922. Kalaugher was the chief scoring man. He got 13 tries and kicked 30 goals in the nine games. In the final game Balliol College beat Keble College by 15 points to 5. The report says: “Balliol relied on its forwards to wear down the opposing pack, and then to let Kalaugher complete the demoralisation of the rest of the side by his speed.” For the second half of the season Kalaugher played for Northampton County, and gained high praise from the critics. Northampton won 32 out of the 38 games in the season’s play. In the last few games M. Barak. the Rhodes scholar from Canterbury College, played centre-three-quarter, with Kalaugher as wing-three-quarter, and their combined work was excellent. One report says: “The New Zealanders Kalaugher and Barak were the more dangerous force in the Northampton three-quarter line, and Barak’s individual play was of great merit. Kalaugher must be one of the fastest wingers playing to-day.” Playing cricket in the Oxford senior trials at the end of April Kalaugher took four wickets for 3S runs. The “Daily Telegraph” said: “W. G. Kalaugher, the New Zealand fast bowler, taking full advantage of the help afforded by the conditions, gained two early victims. Kalaugher proved very difficult to play on finding a wicket entirely suited to him, and always had the batsmen in difficulties.” Kalaugher has again gained a place in the Oxford University eleven, and, playing for that team against Yorkshire at Oxford, he got one wicket for 61 runs in the first innings, and one for 26 in the second. The match was drawn. Competing in an athletic contest against Bristol University on May T. Kalaugher won the long jump with 21ft lin, and the high jump with sft 4in. _
