ALL SAINTS CHURCH. Last Sunday’s retiring collections for the Bishop of Nelson’s funds resulted as follows: Sumner £ll 9s 3d, Redcliff? £2 7s 9d, Sunday school £4 4s. To-morrow thanksgiving services for the King will be given all day, the evening service being choral. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. The committee of the Presbyterian Church has arranged three concerts to raise funds for the purchase of vases for use at the annual chrysanthemum show. The first of these was held this week in the schoolroom. There was a large audience, and the programme was supplied by the Christchurch Scottish Society. The following were the items:—Highland Reel, Highland Fling, Reel o’ Tulloch, Miss Bruce’s pupils; songs by Mrs Brundall, Messrs Peter Donaldson and Joseph Forbes; mandolin solos, Mr S. Birch; cornet duets, Messrs Trembath and Creagh; sailors harnpipe. Misses Rona Belmer and Madge Walton; Irish pig, Misses Rita Campbell and Jean Dickson : Seann Triubhais, Miss Madge WaUun; accompanist, Mrs Creagh; piper, Mr J. Chisholm jun. The Rev W. M’Ara moved a hearty vote of thanks to the performers which was carried acclamation. METHODIST MAORI MISSION. The one hundred and seventh Maori Mission is to be commemorated in Sumner at an early date, when a unique programme of music, song and oratory will be given by the official 1929 Maori Mission Party. This is composed of representatives of all the greater tribes to which the Methodist Maori Mission brought the Gospel so long ago. A brief speech will be given on the “ Romance and Tragedy cl Maori Missions,” and items of a highly educative and entertaining quality w?ll be rendered by the singers and musicians, all in Maori costumes. Amongst the party is Te Aho-ote Rangi Pihama, the nineteenth descendant in the direct male line from Toturoa, the chief who brought the ancestors of the Wii kato tribes to New Zealand in the Tainui canoe. He is an outstanding orator, and, being a close relation of the Maori King, Te Rate Mahuta, carries with him one of the king’s Taiahas, as a sign of his sovereign’s approval of his mission in this district. BOWLING CLUB. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Sumner Bowling Club: Patron, Mr G. Humphreys; president, Mr T. F. Chambers, vice-president, Mr T. Newburgh; treasurer, Mr F. G. Cother, re-elected; hon secretary, Mr J. A. Clarke (re-elected). GOLF. The draw for the Richmond Hill ladies’ championship is as follows: Mrs W. J. Sim plays Miss G. Feast. , CARNIVAL COMMITTEE. Mr C. N. Aiken presided over a meeting of the carnival committee of the Sumner District High School. Present: j Mrs J. li. W. Sheppard, Miss G. Wilson, and Messrs R. C. N. Hill (secretarv), F. N. Kerr, G. F. Allen, F. 11. Matthews, G. K. Shrimpton and Baxter. It was reported that the net proceeds from the card evening and the concert were respectively £9 8s 6d and £l2 9s. The offers of assistance from Mrs M’Conville and Mrs Dunns were accepted with thanks. The former was added to the cake stall and the latter to the flower stall. Mrs J. Langdale was added to the variety stall and Mrs Hill was appointed to the afternoon tea stall. Mrs L. P. Longuet’s offer of assistance with the bran tubs was accepted with thanks. The recommendation from the school committee that the carnival be held in the Town Hall was considered and de-' cision held over till the question ot i dates was again investigated. The offer of Robert Francis, Ltd., to provide a programme for a concert was accepted with thanks. RIFLE SHOOTING. There was a good attendance at this week’s shoot at the range of the Surn-ner-Redcliffs Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club. Last week’s trophy, for which Misses Phemie Vaughan, Eunice Whitfield and Con Corser had tied, was again contested and resulted in another tie. The shoot off will take place next ■week. The targets for the senior brooch showed the following scores: Miss Freda Allen 68. Miss Muriel Whitfield 63, Mrs Jerard 62, Miss Bobs Ellis 5S and 62. and Miss Phemie Vaughan CO. The junior button was won by Miss Con Corser with 66, Miss Eunice Whitfield scoring 61 and Miss Dorothy Ellis 56. SURF CLUB. The committee of the Sumner Life Saving and Surf Bathing Club met on Thursday evening. Present: Mr S. K. Bassett (chairman), C. A. Kite, D. Richardson, L. Sutherland, W. Burford, A. T. Boiam, N. Winter and K. B. Allen. It was reported that the recent scouring on the beach had threatened the concrete wall and runway lor the reels, and that the staff of the Borough Council had effected such repairs as had re suited in its preservation. The secretary was instructed to write to the Mayor conveying the thanks of the club for the timely service rendered Mr J. S Hawker forwarded his resig nation from the committee owing to his removal to the city. The resignation was received with regret and the secretary was instructed to write to Mi Hawker expressing the club’s appreciation of the work he had done.

The social committee reported that the dance held last Saturday evening for the piano funds had been very successful and that it was intended to hold a series of dances every fortnight. REDCLIFFS TEMPLARS. Thirty-eight members of the Ever Onward Temple, Redcliffs, attended at this week’s meeting, Brother E Cooper presiding. It was decided to visit the Bastian Memorial Temple, Sydenham, next Monday. Brother Rennie, G.E.W. announced that a cup had been given him for competition by all juvenile Templars, and that a sports day would be held during the Christmas holidays. A word building competition occupied the rest of the evening.
