MAN ARRESTED IN MELBOURNE MAY BE SENT BACK TO N.Z.
(Special to the "Star.”) AUCKLAND, July 5. As exclusively stated in the "Star” a fortnight ago, warrants were issued for two men, Arthur F. Strange and John Tabor, who had suddenly disappeared from Auckland. Both men were engaged in the business of Tabor and Co., publishing and advertising agents, with a suite of offices at 509, Dilworth Buildings Shortly after the issue of the warrants Strange was arrested at Thames, while Tabor could not be found, it being believed that he went to Melbourne under the name of "Taylor.” Advice from the Victorian police has now been received by the Auckland police that Tabor has been arrested at Melbourne. Provided the cost of his extradition to New Zealand is guaranteed, he will be escorted back to Auckland. Strange appeared at the Police Court last week, when he was remanded to appear again yesterday. The charge preferred against him was as follow.' ; ‘That, with intent to defraud, he obtained £l5O from Arthur Frederick Rowe at Auckland on June 12 by falsely representing that he had a sound, well-established publishing company in Auckland at No. 509, Dilworth Buildings, that he was the sole agent for certain publications, among which was the 1930 ‘Catholic Review,’ and that he had the authority from the head of the Catholic Church in New Zealand to have the same distributed in all Catholic churches.” When Strange came before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday morning, Chief-Detective Hammond said that as Tabor, whom he described at the "principal,” had been arrested in Melbourne, he would ask for a further remand in Stranges case. Mr Hunt granted the remand.
