MR SIDNTY WILLIAMSON WILL PRESENT ELGAR’S CANTATA “KING OLAF.”
The soloists for Elgar's cantata. “King Olaf.” to be presented under Mi Sidney Williamson’s direction at the Municipal Concert Hall on Tuesday evening, have been chosen with the greatest care, assuring a performance that is worthy of the great work itself. Mrs A. Edwards, Misses Mabel Eaglesome and Ella Thurlow take the three soprano roles; Mr Harold Prescott sings the title role (tenor), and Mr J. J. Flail has the bass parts. Mr Sidney Smith leads an orchestra of more than thirty performers, Mr T. Vernon Griffiths plays the organ parts, and Miss Mona Neale the harp. Orchestra and choir have been thoroughly trained under Mr Williamson’s expert guidance. The performance is of particular significance, since it marks the twentieth anniversary of Mr Williamson's valuable work for music in Christchurch. The premiere will also be given of Miss Dorothy Filkin’s work, “ The Rejoicing of the Hours,” which gained the prize in a recent competition organised by the Society for Imperial Culture. Box plans now open at The Bristol.
