NOTES ON THE RACING. (Special to the “ Star.") GREENMEADOWS, June 15. There were thirteen starters in the Waiohiki Hurdles. Fine Acre was favourite,’ and went to the front at half-way and never looked a loser, getting home by half a length. Thurnbell just beat Abisogne by a neck in a thrilling race for second place. From a. bunched start in the Green- ; meadows Handicap Taranto, the favourite, led until entering the ' straight, when .Glyn Dhu came up from the back with a rush and the leader dropped back. Glyn Dhu and Last Mark made a great race to the post, the former winning by three-quarters of a length. The Ladies’ Handicap, for gentlemen riders, saw a good race, J. D. Ormond piloting King’s Jest past the post first by three lengths, with Alaric an easy second and Curtsey third, a length ahead of Brigadier Bill. The Winter Oats saw a great tussle between Vesperus and Queen’s Choice to the straight, where Singleton, who was lying third, came away, drew level half-way down the straight, and got home by half a length from Queen's Choice and Royal Damon, just ahead of Shrewd, who was fourth. Ceremony figures in three-year-old events, while Mask is in the Metropolitan and Thaw in the Epsom Handicap. The team should pick up some money if taken across. The youngsters are w'ell forward,. and should be ready to race early. Ceremony is training on well, and if he retains the brilliancy he showed as a two-year-old he will keep the best of his age busy. M. Gardner has put Star Area into work again, and this good performer looks in fine shape to begin his preparation for spring events. Royal Acre, in the same stable, was given a gallop over seven furlongs this morning. He ran the first three nicely in 39sec, and was then allowed to take things comfortablv. He may be a starter in the Pa tea County Cup at Waverley. Warflame is bright and well on it. She was given easy work. C.
