ninth round. The ninth round of the Canterbury .Hockey Association competitions was played to-day. The weather was fine and grounds in good order. TRINITY V. VARSITY. Huston and Ford initiated a Varsity forward movement, a twenty-five resulting. B. Rogers set Trinity attacking-, R. Collins being- prominent with a good run. Sinclair centred into the Varsity circle, but Holland relieved. Trinity continued to hold the upper hand, M'Combs being called upon to save from Graham. C. Rogers secured at half-way and went through to open the Trinity score. Varsity took play to their opponents’ circle, where a scramble ensued, Huston finally shooting behind. A shot from Hay was saved by Patterson at the expense of a corner. Even play continued until C. Rogers and R. Collins broke away for the latter to score. Half-time came with the score:— Trinity 2, Varsity 0. Shortly after the interval M’Cormack sent in a hot shot, increasing the Trinity .score. Then Varsity kept up a solid pressure for a time, Hay finally netting from a corner. Huston tried a solo effort for Varsity, but his shot went wide. The Trinity forwards gained ground in a passing rush, Collins, C. Rogers and Sinclair giving Varsity some anxious moments. Graham beat M’Combs, adding Trinity’s fourth goal. From a Varsity attack Hay tried a backhand shot which Patterson saved. No further scorte resulted and the game ended:—

SELWYN V. TECHNICAL. A brief sortie by Technical was followed by a strong forward movement by Selwyn, and W. Bell opened the score with a hot shot. Selwyn kept up the pressure and R. Lane made a clever run and scored easily. Selwyn 2, Technical 0. Selwyn held the game in Technical’s end, and a centre by Lane was accepted by Getson and turned to account. Selwyn 3, Technical 0. A few minutes later Selwyn were again in their opponents' circle and W. Bell shot for Pickup to stop the ball, but Lane followed in and added a fourth goal. Selwyn 4, Technical 0. Technical made a few ineffectual efforts and then Selwyn forced play back into Technical’s circle. Lane put in a shot which Pickup stopped, but Getson followed in and scored easily. Half-time score:— Selwyn 5, Technical 0. Selwyn had the better of the early stages of the second spell, and a centre by Getson gave S. Bell a chance to score with a quick shot. Selwyn 6, Technical 0. Selwyn went down and reached Technical’s circle, but Hahn sent play back and Gracie transferred to Grafton, who raced in and scored. Selwyn 6, Technical 1. Selwyn kept up and G. Getson added a seventh goal. Selwyn 7, Technical 1. Technical rallied and made a concerted movement from which Cockroft scored. Selwyn 7, Technical 2. Pinal score:— SELWYN 7 TECHNICAL 2 Referees: Messrs S. Clements and C. Bellamy. ST ALBANS V. SYDENHAM. %t Albans attacked- but Sydenham tuj*ned the tables. Good defence by Soper, however, kept them out. A weak free hit by Barnes let St Albans away, but a breach enabled Sydenham to clear. Aiager intercepted a centre, but shot weakly, missing a royal chance. Sydenham gained the circle, but offside spoilt a good chance. From a similar position a moment later Rushbridgo shot unsuccessfully. Sydenham pressed hard, but were unable to get further than the circle. Half-time came with the scores:— Sydenham 0, St Albans 0. Play changed ends rapidly in the second half, St Albans being mostly kept on th*a defensive. A Sydenham forward rush was broken up by Soper in the nick of time. Sydenham returned, however, and Rushbridge notched their opening goal. Sydenham came again, Ainger netting from close range. A

spell of midfield play followed. Sydenham attacked, and from a melee in the goal-mouth Mayston scored from close in. St Albans were defending- when the final whistle blew.
