CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. C. Lewey, S.M.) NEEDED A LESSON. Leonard Travers Lanyon, twenty-one years of age, was charged with having been drunk, with having broken a prohibition order, and with having failed to comply with the terms of his probation. He was convicted and discharged on the first and second charges, and was sentenced to two months* imprisonment with hard labour on the third charge. Mr Bowie, for Lanyon, said that he had an excuse. The Magistrate said that there was no excuse for the breach of probation. Mr Bowie said that Lanyon had worked on the wharves amongst hard drinkers. The Probation Officer said that Lanyon had given considerable trouble and needed a severe lesson. CHILDREN'S COURT. (Before Mr H. P. La-wry, S.M., and Mrs A. E. Herbert, J.P.). Two boys, charged with cycling at night without lights, were fined 5s and zs 6d respectively. For cycling on the footpath, a lad was fined ss. STOLE BICYCLE. A boy, aged ten, pleaded guilty to stealing a bicycle on April 20. Senior-Sergeant Shanahan said that the boy took the bicycle from Sydenham Park. He used it for riding to school and then hid it on the way home. After admonishing the bov, the Magistrate placed him under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for two years, a condition being that the boy. should be prohibited from using a bicycle during that period. NO DRIVING LICENSES. A bov of fourteen years was charged with driving a motor-car without a license. The case was adjourned until April 30, 1930. A girl, aged sixteen years, was charged with driving a motor-car without a license on May 24. The Senior-Sergeant said that the girl was learning to drive at Prebbleton. She collided with another car, but the fault was not necessarily hers. The girl was fined ss.
