MINISTERIAL. The lion W. B. Taverner. Minister of Railways, arrived at Blenheim last night. He left for Christchurch at eight o’clock this morning. Mr J. A. Redpath returned to Christchurch yesterday from Wellington. Sir Alfred Robin, Boy Scout Commissioner for Wellington, left for Dunedin last night. Mr R. S. Kent, superintendent of the South Island Railway Division, who has been on a visit to Wellington, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr Justice Luxford. Chief Judge of Western Samoa, is indisposed as a result of an accident at Whangarei, and will not be able to leave for Samoa to-day as previously planned. Mr J. L. Danks. chairman of the Heathcote County Council, is a county delegate to No. 14 District Highways Council. The County Council last evening again nominated him for that position. Messrs W. J. Holdsworth, Boy Scout Commissioner for Auckland, and II Amos, Wellington representative on the Dominion executive of the Boy Scouts' Association, left Christchurch on their return north last night. Air N. G. Mac Cormack, late of Leithfield, cables that he has arrived at Southampton by the Rangitiki after a pleasant voyage. He is on a visit to his native county, lnvernessshire, and intends touring other parts of the British Isles during his holiday.
Mr W. Pratt was a passenger on this morning's ferry steamer. Mr S. Schneiderman (Wellington) is a recent arrival at Warner's Hotel. The Rev E. B. Chambers has accepted an invitation to the Methodist Church, Edgeware Road. The Hon T. K. Sidey (Leader of the Legislative Council) and the Hon D. T. Fleming, M.L.C., arrived from the north this morning. A motion of sympathy M-ith Mr TF. Scott in the death of his mother-in-law, was carried at last evening's meeting of the Heathcote County Council. Lieutenant-Colonel S. J. E. Closey, M.C., of the Waikato Regiment, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration. Messrs T. C. Urquhart (Auckland) and M. A. T. Leu*is (Manchester) are visitors to Christchurch staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr H. P. Ritchie, for the past thirteen years Director of Agriculture in Samoa, returned to New Zealand by the Tofua. lie has been appointed Director of Agriculture in Tonga, as the position in Samoa has been abolished following a scheme of Civil Service retrenchment. Mr 11. G. Ell, who met with a serious accident some weeks ago, as the result of a fall, is still indisposed. lie is attending to Summit Road affairs, but is at present unable to give them the time and energy he would like to bestow on them. His medical adviser requires him to take as much rest as pos--1 sible.
