HOKITIKA TO HAVE MORE ELECTRICITY.
(Special to the “Star.”) HOKITIKA, June 15. At the Borough Council meeting last evening the Mayor, Mr Perry, stated, in respect to an application by the borough for an improved electric lighting system under the franchise held by the Kanieri Electric Company, Ltd. that the manager of the Company had informed the council’s deputation that the New York directors had now sanctioned by cable proposals for develop ing additional electric light and power which would be increased nearly three fold. The cost of the works, which had been approved, would be upwards of £25,000, which would enable stable light to be provided for the borough, and more power for industrial purposes in the town. In addition the dredging plant at Rimu Flat would be augmented. There was fully twenty years’ work ahead in profitable gold dredging In addition, a new hull for the existing dredge was expected and a second dredge would be placed on the field. It was understood that good returns continue to be received from the company’s operations, hence the encouragement to launch out on the major proposals now projected.
