FREE TRADE IN EMPIRE IS CANADIAN SLOGAN.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received June 15, 1 p.m.) OTTAWA, June 11. Free trade within the Empire is reported to be the answer of the Liberal Government to repeated tariff increases in the United States and to the charge by the Tories that Canada is accepting discriminatory tariffs without retaliation. It is understood it is contemplated that the general election of 1931 will be fought on Imperial preference and that Canadians will be encouraged to buy within the Empire rather than in the United States.
Before the election certain Cabinet changes are forecasted. For the lirst time a member of the United Farmers group of Alberta and a Saskatchewan Progressives will be brought in. The Minister of Immigration may go to the Senate and will be succeeded by Mr T. A. Crerar, a former leader of Farmer Parliament was prorogued on Friday afternoon. —Australian Press Association.
