PAPANUI SCHOOL COMMITTEE. ’ 1 The monthly meeting of the Papanui { School Committee was held on \\ ednesday. Present: G. Allington (chairman) A. Chaney, L. Claridge, A M Connel,.W. Sandford, F. Claridge R. Donald, J. Cains and C. H. Dyer (secretary) An apology for absence was receiped from Mr H. Guy. . • It was reported that a Maori concert company would give a concert in aiu o the school funds. . The visiting committee for the month was Misses L. Claridge and Chaney. Correspondence was received mom ttfe Education Board with respect to subsidies on gramophone and ground improvements. In t(he headmasters .e-------port it was mentioned that a sum ol money had been raised for a percussion band for the infant department and that the children were being supplied with hot cocoa with their lunches during the winter term. WAIMAIRI SCHOOL DANCE. The largest attendance yet recorded was present at the Waimain School dance on Saturday night, \incents Band provided the dance music and the M.C. was Mr Claridge. Mesdames Neilson and Spiers won the “lucky spot.” The supper was in charge ot Mesdames Neilson, Merrin, Moor and Fullwood, and Mr A. Fullwood attended to the general arrangements.

PERSONAL. A presentation was made to Miss E. Crowley, infant mistress, by the staff of the Papanui School on the occasion of her retirement on superannuation. RUGBY FOOTBALL DANCE.

On Wednesday evening a dance was held in the Gaiety Hall, which looked very artistic with hanging ferns, pot plants, and kewpies dressed in the colours of the club. The Papanui Band playesd several selections outside the hall before the dance. The “lucky spot” waltz was won by Miss Sisson and Mr Illingsworth. The ladies who assisted with the supper were: Mesdames Reid and E. W. Worsdale. Mrs 11. R. Smith was the organiser.

W.C.T.U. The monthly meeting of the Papanui branch of the W.C.T.U. was held in the Presbyterian Bible Class room on Thursday afternoon, Mrs Simpson presiding. . Donations were received from bers towards the “million shilling” campaign organised by the Dominion union. A letter was received from Miss Ilarband asking that notifications of new members and the names of those transferred to another union, be forwarded to her, and Mrs Bond was appointed

Mrs Barrell, president of the Riccarton branch, gave a very interesting address on the work of the W.C.r.U., and the many branches of reform work helped by the leaders and members ot the movement. Mesdames Simpson and C. Smith thanked the speaker. METHODIST GIRLS’ CLUB. The weekly meeting was held in the Sunday School Hall on Tuesday. The first part of the evening was devoted to dramatics, those taking part being Misses Betty Fairbairn, Muriel Irving. Rosie Gibson, Connie Gibson, Ivy Rooinson and Freda Woodham. This w«»s followed by physical drill and games, the last part of the evening being devoted to devotional studies. Camp choruses were sung at the conclusion of the meeting WAIMAIRI SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Waimairi School Committee was held on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs R D. Rule (chairman), Claridge. Fullwood, Burrell, Ransell, Radford, Moor. Mesdames, Neilson and Merrin. ihe treasurer. Mr C. Evans and the headmaster, Mr C. Wilkins, also were present. The headmaster reported that the roll number was 370 and the average attendance 341. In view of the increase an extra teacher, Miss N. Biltclilf, had been appointed.

FOOTBALL. Waimairi School middle-weights have a great record this year. Against Fendalton they won by 47 to nil arid against Papanui the score was 36 to nil. Only three points have been scored against them so far. SNOOKER. A large number of competitors took part in a ‘Th ing snooker” tournament at the Papanui Billiard Rooms on Mondav. The troop met on Tuesday evening last under the charge of Scoutmaster J. G. Barnes and Assistant-Scoutmaster J. Clarkson. One half of the troop under the charge of Assistant-Scouter Clarkson, was given ambulance work, and the remainder the tenderfoot test. During the evening Major Furby paid the troop a visit and watched the Scouts at play. He then inspected the troop, and after the inspection the Scouts were given a splendid talk on the true Scout spirit. The troop then repeated the Scout's promise and were dismissed. After the parade a meeting was held, at which Major Furby attended. He outlined the duties of the committee, and -was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his talk to the Scouts and parents. LOYAL PAPANUI JUVENILE LODGE, M.U. The fortnightly meeting of the lodge was held on June 6, when N.G. Bro Fright presided. V.G. Bro J. Beaghlev was elected Noble Grand and Bro J. Chapman, ex-elective secretary, Vice-Grand. The installation of officers was conducted by the following senior members: Lecture Master, Bro Price (of Loyal Kaiapoi Juveniles) and conductors Bro W.
