MAORI WOMAN, 104 YEARS OLD, DIES ON WANGANUI.
(Special to the “Star.”) WANGANUI. June 14. A historical figure on the Wanganui River, Mihi Ruihi Tairaponga, reputed to be 104 years old, passed away at Korinite. At the age of thirty-nine years, she was present at the battle of Moutoa. In April she became very ill and the Maoris made preparations for a tangi, while others hastened to Wanganui to order a coffin. “ Just put on the lid,” said a Maori to the undertaker, “ died April , 1929. Leave a space for the date. Him be dead all right, I think, by the time we get back.”
