RIFT IN LABOUR PARTY IN SOUTH AFRICA REPORTED.
WILL BE WEAKENED IN COMING ELECTIONS. (United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received June 8, 10.15 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, June 7. The general secretary of the Labour Council advises sympathisers to vote for the South African Party. He states that the Labour Party has been wrecked and ruined by the selfish and ambitious, a most pitiable thing in South African politics. The introduction of unexpected elements leaves the country confused as to the prospects of the general election. The question of Dominion status has been dispelled chiefly by differences among the Dutch section of the population. The more sober element believe that the present differences are not substantial. Uncertainty has arisen over the bitter division of the Labour ranks. The supporters of Colonel Creswell and the Nationalists are solidly combined, while the supporters of the National Council are not supporting the South African Party. The only certainty is that Labour will be considerably weakened, but they- believe that the Pact Party will secure a sufficient majority to form a Government. The Ministers claim a majority of thirteen, while the South African Party anticipate a narrow majority over all parties.—Australian Press Association.
