CANTERBURY WOMEN'S CLUB.

The reception at the Canterbury Women's Club, in honour of the delegates to the conference of the Federation of University Women, which is being held in Christchurch, was attended by a large number of members last night. The decorations, consisting ef bowls of delicately shaded hydrangeas, daisies, single dahlias and antirrhinums, were most tastefully' arranged. A delightful programme was much appreciated. and included a duet by- Mesdames Ludbrook and T. D, Kendall; songs by Mesdames Boocock and Palk; Hawaiian songs, to the guitar and ukulele, by the Misses Heni and Alice Scott: and a humorous recitation by Mrs Spence Clark. Mrs S. Robinson and Miss Gertrude Eaton played the accompaniments. Mr* Flesher. the president of the club. said the delegates they had the pleasure of welcoming represented the New Zealand branches of the World's Federation of University Women—an association formed not only- to offer moral support, but, if necessary', to give financial aid to women graduates especially fitted to engage in research work. The delegates from Auckland who were present were Dr Buckley Turkington, Mrs G. Roger, the Misses Taylor and Miss Haine; from Wellington. Miss Cooke; from Dunedin. Mr* Fogg, Miss Vida Sheddon and Miss Nancy* Aston: while the local delegates were Dr Jessie Scott. Mrs Penny, Miss Sims, Miss Reece and Miss Ellen Jones. Mrs Flesher also gave a warm welcome to Mrs W. H. Dixon and Mrs Upham. of the Pioneer Club, Wellington, Mrs Alex. Miller and Miss Muriel Harkness (Westport), and Mesdame* Rose. H. S. Russell. W. J. Wade and Miss M. Garden, newly elected members of the club. Tea was handed round after the musical programme.
