The distribution of toys, balloons and lollies then began. Afternoon tea. ice cream and soft drinks were supplied. The combined efforts of an enthusiastic committee contributed greatly to the success of the function. Items, vocal and instrumental, were rendered by Mr - Reg Stevens, Mr J. Laurenson, and I Norm. Carson's dance orchestra. • A very enjoyable afternoon was given by Mrs H.Worrall and Mrs G. H. Congreve at Mount Pleasant on Thursday at Mrs Worrall’s residence, to entertain Mrs Morten and Miss Morten. who are shortly leaving for a visit * to England. The guests were present- ! ed with suitable gifts by Mrs C. t Edmonds, 'and a competition, - music and afternoon tea made the occasion a very pleasant and enjoyable one. The competition was won by Miss E. Williams. The travellers were wushed bon voyage, an enjoyable holiday, and a safe return to Mount Pleasant. Stott, L.T.C.L.. gave an enjoyable musical programme which was greatly apprecii. ated bv a number of parents and • friends. The stage was prettily decorated with large bowls of Shirley poppies and shrubs. At the conclusion of the programme pupils and friends were entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs Stott and her daughter. The following gave items:—Duets, Molly nad Jack Ilarty, Norma French 'and Joyce White, Josephine and Irene Keenan, Manny and Topsy Karetai, Margaret and Molly Keenan; song, Margaret Keenan: pianoforte solos, Nancy Joblin, Natalie Breitmeyer, Grace Louden, Molly Keenan, Garth Dutton. Allan Long, Joan Craddock, Joyce White, Ronnie Radford, Phyllis Allen, Irene Keenan, Norma French, Molly Hartv, Betty Richards, Leslie Thomas, Margaret Keenan, Mavis Pidgeon, Topsy Karetai. Dr Trail, on behalf of Miss Stott, presented prizes to the following pupils who gained the highest marks at the Trinity College examinations:-—Junior division, Nancy Joblin; preparatory division (honours), Molly Ilarty. Margaret Keenan, on behalf of the pupils, presented Miss Stott with two beautiful beaten copper vases. Miss Stott suitably responded.

Miss Eileen Jones, Sutherland’s Road, Hillmorton, and Miss Molly M’Kay, Hanmer, have gone to New Plvmouth to stay with their aunt. Mrs R. Mascall, for the Christmas holidays. An enjoyable evening was spent on Saturday at the residence of Mr 'and Mrs A. Coutts, Hill’s Road. Shirley the evening taking the form of a “linen party,” given in honour of Miss Iris Stanton. The dining-room was beautifully decorated with coloured streamers and hothouse flowers. dancing, and competitions were 'enjoyed by all. Mr A. J. Ball and Mr A. Coutts were the winners of the competitions. Supper was served in the drawingroom. On behalf of Miss Stanton Mr Ball thanked all those present. The evening was brought to a close bv the singing of Auld Lang Syne and’"For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.”
