SIR HUGH TRENCHARD RESIGNS POST OF CHIEF OF AIR STAFF.

(United Press Aaan.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, December 21 Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Sir Hugh Montague Trenchard, Bt., G.C.8., D. 5.0., has resigned his appointment of Chief of the Air Staff and Senior Air Member of the Air Council. Sir Hugh has had a romantic career as a soldier, serving in many campaigns in Africa and through the Great War,

since joining the Army in 1893. As a result of his African service he was appointed to the command of the North Nigeria Regiment, but in 1913, when all the armies of the world were dabbling in aeronautics, he came to England and was soon appointed AssistantCommandant of the Army School of Aeronautics at Upavon. From that date he has been the leading figure in the Royal Air Force. For three years he was in command in France and since the war has held the senior position that he has just vacated.
