THOUSANDS OF REBELS SURROUND LEGATION.
MINISTER CLOSES GATES WHEN AFGHAN GUARDS RUN AWAY. (United Press Assn.—By Klectric Telegraph—Copyright. > (Received December 22, 10.30 a.m.) DELHI. December 21. Kabul messages state that on the night of December 14 thousands of rebel tribesmen, who during the afternoon seized Baghi Bala Fort, surrounded the British Legation, two miles from the city. The Afghan guard fled, and the Minister, Sir F. H. Humphry, closed the gates, through which he addressed the rebels, who included the brigand leader Bachasakao. The Minister warned them of the sanctity of the Legation, and the leaders thereupon announced that they would not harm the tion. their quarrel being with the Afghan Government. An Air Force ’plane flew over Kabul yesterday and the British Legation signalled “ All well.” The situation in the capital is said to be improving.—Australian Press Association.
