MAYOR SENDS CHRISTMAS MESSAGE TO “STAR” READERS.
THE FOLLOWING Christmas message to “Star” readers was issued by the Mayor, the Rev j. K. Archer, to-day:-
At Christmas time the family idea prevails. In the Old Country the hours are spent by the side of a roaring fire, hut in this new land, out in the open beneath Ihe blazing sun. In both cases, however, the same spirit prevails and the friendly side of life asserts itself.
The city is a family on a large scale and at this season that same spirit should be uppermost. Home life has its “family jars,” but when a crisis comes, whether of joy, sorrow or danger, these drop out of sight. So it is with tiie‘ larger family of tlie municipality.
Even our quarrels, however, are matters of principle rather than personality, and as long as they are so it does not matter If we think for ourselves, they are inevitable, but if our motive is right and we are out for mutual service rattier than self interest all is well. ' ' u 1 trust that we shall live on this level during the New Year and to all our citizens I send the season's greetings.
