NORTH BEACH SURF CLUB HAS MEETING.
A meeting of the executive of the North Beach Surf Club was held in the Surf Pavilion. There were present —Messrs Clem Riordan (club captain), J. Breward (secretary), W. Smith, F. J. L. Scott, F. Bobby, E. 11. Barker, N Neylon, D. Snell. D. V. Wilson, G Dew and G. Wilson. Mr A. Brand was appointed as officer in charge of the building and gear belonging to the club. It was decided to have all the lifesaving gear overhauled, and to purchase another belt. The Canterbury Surf Association asked for financial assistance towards defraying the cost of sending a team to Wellington. It was agreed to donate £5 ss. It was decided to enter one Ray Blank Cup team, two Sumner Cup • (four-man Canterbury championship; teams, and two Benson Shield flxn-s’ rescue) teams for the competition at New Brighton on January 13. and a team for the Ivesteven Cup and the Black and White Cup and Newburgh Shield competitions, to be held at Taylor’s Mistake on Sunday, January The Canterbury Surf Association Intimated that the competitions for the North Beach Gala single-handed rescue, junior resuscitation cup, senior resuscitation (Canterbury championship) rosebowl and the four-man alarm rescue would l>e held at the North Beach Gala on January 19. It was decided to enter for these competitions also. In reply to a notification that Mr , f Breward had been appointed as beach patrol, it was decided to write congratulating the Surf Association on the successful carrying out of the scheme and to express the club’s entire approval of the appointment made, and also to offer to give the patrol any assistance possible. The following new members were elected: —Mesdames W. Atkinson, R. N. Wills and C. Richards, Misses M. Bassett, D. Breward, Moliie Norrie, Eileen Norrie and N. G. Mills, Mrs N. V. Tluh Messrs L. E. Waldron. N. Breward, E. B. Deihl, A. Wright. L. P. Snell. E. S. Ashton, J. S. M’Donald, W. Bassett, G. D. Griffiths, R. W. Bell, K. W. Cobden and G. W. Hopkinson. A notice of motion by Mr F. Bobby that a lady be appointed to the executive. was withdrawn after a long discussion, Mr D. Snell moving instead that the lady members be invited t: appoint a ladies’ club captain and a ladies’ committee. With regard to the appointment of beach inspectors from a bodv other than the Surf Club, the secretary was instructed to write to the Town Clerk stating that the club was again prepared to supply all the inspectors needed. but, if outsiders were going to be appointed the present inspectors would be pleased to relinquish their duties and to return their badges.
