Mr T. J. Connelly (Rakaia) is at the United Service Hotel. Mr G. C. Munns, M.P. for Roskill, arrived from the north this morning. Dr Elizabeth Gunn, School Medical Officer to the Department of Health, arrived from Wellington to-day. Mr S. N. Robinson will leave for Wellington to-morrow night. Mr G. H. Cornes, of Auckland, who has been appointed Sub-Collector of Customs at Wellington, was fare welled by the congregation of Knox Church, Parnell, with which he has been associated since its foundation thirty years ago. The Rev MacDonald Aspland, on behalf of the congregation, presented Mr Cornes with a travelling rug. Dr E. D. and Mrs Aubin, of Parnell, returned to Auckland by the Marama from Sydney. They have been on a two months’ holiday visit to Australia, and attended the Melbourne Cup meeting. During his stay *Dr Aubin visited most of the hospitals. Mr I. W. Weston, who for the past year has been agricultural economist for the Department of Agriculture in Tasmania, has taken up his new appointment as farm economist at Lincoln Agricultural College. Mr Weston was formerly on the staff of the Agricultural Department of New Zealand. Lieutenant-Colonel G. C. Stubbs, D. 5.0., assistant commandant of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Australia, was a passenger from Sydney by the Marama. Accompanied by Captain C. A. Osborne, instructor in tactics at the college, he will spend a holiday in the Dominion. Mr Alfred Wyness, of E. J. Hyams, Wellington, who is leaving next week for England on a business and holiday tour, was the guest of the Wellington gramophone dealers at an afternoon tea. On behalf of the dealers, Mr Ernest Dawson presented Mr Wyness with a travelling rug, and representatives of the different firms also wished Mr Wyness a pleasant trip. Good wishes on behalf of the firm were expressed by Mr E. J. Ilyams.

Mr Algar Williams and Mr A T Donnelly were passengers for the north last evening. Mr A. L. Tonnoir, formerly assistantcurator at Canterbury Museum, arrived in Christchurch from Dunedin last evening He is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Captain Oliphant, marine superintendent for the C. and D. Line at Auckland, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday. Mr L. B. Bradstock, head master of the Burwood School, has been appointed head master of a Dunedin school, and will leave for the south next month. T. P. Nance has been appointed Chief Officer of the New South Wales Fire Brigade in succession to Mr F. Jackson, retired, states an Australian Press Association message from Sydney. Mr P. H. Woods, Assistant Examining Officer of Customs at Christchurch, has been appointed Collector of Customs at Blenheim. The Christchurch vacancy will be filled by the transfer of Mr E. G. Taylor, from Wellington. An announcement in the Gazette states that Major H. C. Glendinning, staff officer in charge of the Hamilton district, has been appointed Assistant Quartermaster-General, Northern Command. Captain G. Dittmer has been appointed temporary staff officer in charge of the Hamilton district. Mr E. Baynes, president of the Royal National Association of Queensland, will make a tour of New Zealand during the month of January. He proposes leaving Sydney for Wellington on January 11, and will proceed directly to the vSouth Island, where he will spend the former part of his stay in the Dominion. He has been actively connected with the Royal National Association of Queensland for the last thirty-eight years, and during the last six years’ has been president of that organisation.
