INQUEST HELD ON DEATH OF BABY.
An inquest concerning the death of a baby, Joan McCarthy, aged a day and a half, was held yesterday before Mr E. D. Mosley, Coroner. The child died in St Helen’s Hospital early yesterday morning.
The matron of the Hospital gave evidence of identification. She said that the child was born on December 18, the mother being Agnes Jessie M’Carthy. Witness had been present when the child died. The child had been in a nursery where a nurse was on duty all night. Dr J. S. Duncan said that he had been summoned to St Helen’s Hospital at 4 15 a.m. yesterday. When he arrived the child was dead. Brown, who had been on duty in the nursery at the time of the death. The Coroner returned a verdict that, the child had died on December 20, death evidently being due to a convulion. probably brought on by a haemorrhage on the surface of the brain. He said that the chid had had every care and attention.
