Slight Improvement In King’s Condition Continues, Says Bulletin.
MORNING’S CHEERING REPORT AROUSES ROYAL HOUSEHOLD TO MORE HOPEFUL MOOD. '* i (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegrraph.—Copyright.) (Received December 20, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, December 19. LORD DAWSON did not visit the Palace after lunch and no interim statement was given out. The Queen went motoring for the first time for some days. Members of the Royal Household are in a more hopeful mood as a result of the morning’s cheering bulletin which stated: “ The King had a restful night and the slight improvement noted yesterday continues.” A note of warning is added that anxiety must continue, inasmuch as the improvement noted so far is very slight. All steps are in the right direction, but they are only very small steps. It will be necessary for this improvement to continue without a break for a number of days before complete confidence is possible. Mr Baldwin announced in the House of Commons that when there are no newspapers during the Christmas holidays, bulletins relating to the King would be posted at the Post Offices and also broadcast. The King’s illness has had a marked effect on Christmas trade and festivities, numerous social functions being cancelled. Big stores report curtailed business. Paris exporters complain that the poultry and fruit trade to England is at least 25 per cent below the figures for 1927. Australian Press Association.
