ATHLETIC AND CYCLING UNION APPOINTS OFFICERS FOR YEAR.

The annual meeting of the North Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held last night. Mr W. J. Walter, president, was in the chair, and the following were present: Messrs G. Henderson, P. C. Crooke, J. M. Coffey, C. M. Kavanagh. W. Cole, S. B. Kershaw, W' Scott, W. C. Miller, G. D. Wheeler, P. Power and P. C. Lucas (secretary). The annual report and balancesheet were adopted. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mr T. P. O'Rourke, who had met with an accident. The Kowai Sports Club forwarded a donation of £1 Is towards the recent Timaru to Christchurch road race. The Kowai Club was granted a permit to conduct the two miles Canterbury track championship at the annual sports to be held at Sefton on Easter Monday. The election of officers resulted as follow’s: President. Mr W. J. Walter; vice-presidents. Messrs J. M. Coffey and C. Stuart; chief consul, Mr W. J. Walter; vice consul, Mr G. Henderson; permit committee, Messrs J. M. Coffey, G. Hendersom, W. J. Walter and P. C. Lucas; secretary and treasurer, Mr P. C. Lucas; athletic handicappers, Mr J. Fitzpatrick (north of Waimakariri), Messrs W. C. Miller and G. D. Wheeler (south of Waimakariri); cycling handicappers, Messrs P. C. Lucas and W. J. Walter; auditor. Mr W. J. Dobbs; executive. Messrs P. C. Crooke, W. Cole. G. Henderson. W. Scott. W. C. Miller, C. M. Kavanagh and T. P. O'Rourke; delegate to conference, Mr P. C. Lucas. Several remits were discussed for the annual conference and further remits were referred to the executive. A permit was granted to the Mairehau Sports Club for an open road race to be held on January 17.
