WATER DISAPPEARS FROM RESERVOIR AT DIAMOND HARBOUR.
METER WILL BE PUT IN PIPE LINE TO DISCOVER LEAKAGE. A letter was received from Mrs Edith Paine, lessee of Godley House, Diamond Harbour, in reference to the council’s reply to her former letter, at last night’s meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council. Mrs Paine stated that she was in a better position to know what occurred regarding the Diamond Harbour water supply than was the council, also that she was not in the habit of telling lies or making unconsidered statements. She asked that she be recompensed for labour and benzine required in pumping water to supply the hotel. The borough engineer reported that a considerable amount of water was going out of the reservoir which could not be accounted for. The leakage, of late, was vastly greater than some time back, and he could not make out where the water was going. If any of the pipes were faulty it would show as the pipe was only buried eighteen inches, and less in places. It was decided on the motion of Councillor W. T. Foster, to place a water meter on the pipe line near Godley House to try and find out how the wastage was occurring.
