NEARLY 350 MEN STILL OUT OF WORK.

POSmON NOT SHOWING ANY IMPROVEMENT. Notwithstanding the fact that 301 men have been placed in employment by the Government Labour Bureau during the past ten days, the number of unemployed registered at the bureau to-day was 342, compared with 350 a week ago. New applications received during last week totalled 182, compared- with 166 in the previous week, and a total of 144 men were placed in employment. Of this number 134 men were given relief work by the City Council, one man was employed by the Public Works Department, and nine were sent to private employment. One hundred and fifty-four men with dependents and 126 without dependents, a total of 280, are fit for heavy work, and 36 men with dependents, and 26 without dependents, a total of 62, are fit for light work only. This morning eight married and four single men registered at the bureau, and two men were placed in private employment.
