CONCRETE SECTION OF NORTH ROAD.

OFFICIAL OPENING TO TAKE PLACE TO-MORROW.

The official opening of the section of the Main North Road, between the Styx bridge and Chaney’s in the Wai--mairi County, which has been reconstructed in concrete, will take place tomorrow, and will be followed by a luncheon in the Waimairi County Council Chambers in Papanui. The section of the road to be opened is - 22 miles in length and is the first in the South Island to be reconstructed in concrete. The official party will assemble at the Styx bridge at 12.30 p.m. when the ribbon across the road will be cut by Mrs Newnham, wife of Mr T. O. Newnhan, chairman of the Waimairi County Council. The chairman will then drive the first car and will proceed on the concrete road to Chaney’s and back to the county offices at Papanui. The official party will comprise members of the Waimairi County Council, representatives of the Main Highways Board, Mr F. Langbe-in. District Engineer for the Public Works Department, members of Parliament, representatives of the contractors (Messrs P. Graham and Sons), Canterbury Automobile Association, Canterbury Progress League, and Town Clerk of Christchurch, City Engineer, Mayor and Town Clerk of Riccarton, Mayor and Town Clerk of New Brighton, representatives of the Paparua, Halswell, Heathcotc and Eyre- County Councils, Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, Tramway Board, Harbour Board, Drainage Board, Waimakariri River Trust and South Island Motor Union.
