SYDNEY BOUGHT LIQUOR SUPPLIES BEFORE VOTING.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received November 17, 3.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 17. The weather has cleared, and polling is proceeding quietly. The chief rush occurred just prior to eight o’clock, people hurriedly laying in stocks of liquor to tide them over the drought that came with the opening of the polling booths, when all the hotel bars were closed. Voting is compulsory, and! queues formed early in the industrial centres, but this probably was largely accounted for by the fact that the cricket match will claim their later attention. —Australian Press Association.
