PAGE’S ROAD. It has been intimated that tenders for the reconstruction of Page’s Road probably will be called before Christmas. SURF CLUB. The opening of the season of the New Brighton Surf Club will take.place tomorrow at the pavilion at three o'clock. \ ATHLETIC CLUB. At a meeting of the New Brighton Amateur Athletic Club Mr A. Hughes (vice-president) presided. Messrs Pearson, Gallagher and Chambers were appointed to represent the club at a meeting of sports clubs to discuss improvements to Rawhiti Domain. It was decided to hold another evening meeting. on Thursday, 22nd inst., and to run off the following programme: 75yds ladies (club), 120yds ladies (open), 100 yards men (club), 440yds men (club), 220yds youths (club), 220yds men (open), 440yds men (open). BAND. The New Brighton Municipal Band will play the following programme on Sunday at New Brighton: March, “ March of the Anzacs ”; fox trot, “ Ice Cream”; hymn, “Abide with Me”; waltz, “Can’t You Hear me say ‘I Love You * ”; selection, “ Saxonhurst intermezzo, “ Ankel Fichte”; fox trot, “She Don’t Wanna”; march, “Great Little Army.” DANCE. The New Brighton Association Football Club’s dance held in Joyland Theatre last Saturday proved one of the most successful functions arranged in the borough during the season. In addition to the large number of local residents present the Canterbury Football Association and the Canterbury Referees’ Association and the following clubs were represented: Western, Thistle, Kaiapoi, Nomads, Rangers, St Albans and Spreydon. The music for the dance was supplied by Mr L. Blogg’s orchestra. The club colours were freely used in the hall, which was prettily decorated. Messrs W. Waddell and R. Crawford were M.C.’s. The supper arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames H. Wilkins, H. Johnson and R. Shaw. The prizewinners in the novelty dances were Miss M’Clure and Mr W. Sutherland ♦ Monte Carlo), and Miss M. Smyth and Mr H. Smyth (lucky spot). During the evening the patron of the club (Mr A. W. Owles) presented a gold medal donated by Mr L. Lennie to Mr H. Johnson for the most consistent player during the past season. Mr Owles promised two medals for next season for players who show the most consistency in their play during the next season. Two supporters of the club have promised a set of medals should the club win either the competition or English Cup competition next season, and also a set of medals for the boys’ team.

SOUTH BRIGHTON GALA. A special meeting of the South Brighton Gala Committee was held on Monday last. Mr J. Orsborn presided over a good attendance. The following resolution was carried unanimously “That the Band Carnival be informed that their offer to postpone the gala could not be accepted.” It was decided to use the same site as last year for the stalls and side-shows. The secretary was instructed to write to the council asking them to allow their inspector to control the traffic on New Year’s Day. It was decided that Mrs Scrimshaw be asked to run a children's fancy dress dance for the benefit of the gala funds. A committee was appointed to hold a Dutch Fair evening for the same purpose. The next meeting will he held on November 27. S.B.S.F. The usual weekly social of the S.B.S.F. was held in the Bridge Sreet Hall on Wednesday. The competitions were won by Mrs Head, Mrs Mulholland, and Messrs J. Pocock and Yarrell.

NORTH BEACH NOTES. NORTH BRIGHTON UNITED BAND OF HOPE. A closing of the season social was held by the Band of Hope in the Ozone Cafe, North Beach, on Tuesday evening. Mr D. N. Adams presided over a large gathering of children and friends. Items were contributed by Mrs Goldman. Misses Pollard, Messrs Fever and Pollard and Master Raymond Noonan. Addresses were given by Mrs Goring and Air Climie. A liberal supper was provided, bags of cakes being sent to the little ones who were unable to attend owing to the Health Department’s restrictions. SCHOOL TENNIS. The North Beach tennis team which has been entered for the primary schools competition has so far been successful in winning all its matches. At the beginning of the season, a friendly match was played with New Brighton, and later the girls played Burwood, both matches being won by the home team. In the schools competition, Elmwood were beaten by 8 sets to 4, and Burwood by 9 sets to 3. Outstanding players for North Beach are Olga Ritchie and Ruth Uren for the girls, the latter holding an unbeaten record to date, and Ron Bell for the boys. Two silver cups which have been presented to the school by Air C. S. Winny, of the North Beach Tennis Club, will be played off for between this date and the end of the year, and will be given to the champion boy and girl respect ively. Air E. B. Diehl, of the teaching staff of the school, has devoted a great deal of time to training the players, and much of the success is due to his efforts backed up by the parents. TENNIS CLUB. Air W. Peppier, secretary of the North Beach Tennis Club (Bowker courts) states that the ladies of the committee and a few enthusiastic friends had been working for some months past in preparation for a bazaar that is being held in the Peace Alemorial Hall on Saturday, December 1. Sewing meetings have been held weekly, and the ladies have a considerable quantity of goods on hand and more in the course of making.

DANCE. The usual Saturday evening dance will be held in the Peace Memorial Ilall this evening, the music being supplied by Mr Habgood’s orchestra. W.C.T.U. A meeting of the North Brighton Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in the Baptist Church on Monday evening, Miss B. M. Harband, J.P., presiding over a large attendance of members and friends. Mrs T. E. Taylor, the Dominion president, was welcomed by Miss Harband, and delivered an address in which the speaker gave an interesting account of experiences at the PunPacific Conference. Mrs Goring also addressed the meeting. One new member was initiated. Musical and elocutionary items were contributed by Mesdames Beaton, Eames and Goldman and Miss K. Instone. SCARLET FEVER. There has been no case of scarlet fever amongst the scholars of the North Beach School. ' SURF CLUB. The annual meeting of the North Beach Surf Club was held in the pavilion on Monday evening, the Mayor of New Brighton, Mr A. W. Owles, presiding over a good attendance. Goodman; honorary surgeons, Dr elevens and Dr Glasgow; honorary auditor, Mr D. V. Wilson; executive, Messrs A. Brand, E. H. Barker, F. J. L. Scott, J. E. Bobby, G. Dew, G. B. Wilson, N. Naylor and R. Snell. PERSONAL. The Rev W. F.. Knowles is in St George’s Hospital. Mr W. H. Winsor has come to reside at his house in Fleming Street.
