C.A.A. REPORTS SUCCESSFUL YEAR.
ANNUAL MEETING WAS HELD LAST EVENING
The annual meeting of the Canterbury Automobile Association was held last night. Mr B. Falck presided over a large attendance.. • In moving the. adoption of. the annual report and balance-sheet .(which, have already been published) * Mr* W. R. Carey said that the association’s income. for the past year had been a record. There was one regrettable feature of the year’s activities—the falling oft of nominations for membership.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected r or the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr A. Dudley Dobson; president, Mr F. W. Freeman; vice-president, Mr W. R. Carey : council, Messrs F. W.. Johnston, G. S! Morris, Roy Twyneham, T. Milliken, J. L. Dank?, 11. E. Ivennett, J Mason, L. M. Wilson, W. 11. Nicholson, J. Russell, IT. M. Garrick, H. C. Harley, F. D. Sargent, C. G. Ciirtis and Dr W. H. Simpson; auditor, Mr A. M’Kellar. A vote of thanks to the retiring presiient, Mr Falck, was carried. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to place on. record the association’s appreciation of the work of the honorary treasurer (Mr Carey). . Air F. D. Sargent said that, due largely to the able administration of the finances by the treasurer, the association was now in a vej;y solid position. It- was time for the association to make a forward move. It soon would be able to clear its own property of debt. Others also merited praise for tfieir fine work.
Mr Johnston’s motion that the counci. be recommended to consider holding sporting . and semi-sporting events lor motorists was carried. Mr P- R- Harman moved that a house committee be appointed to improve the * club rooms. The chairman said that there was at present a, house committee. The matter of the improvement of the club rooms would be investigated. “ The Civil Sendee is dictating to the Government,” said Mr I<\ W. Johnston, when urging the association to support the South Island Motor Union in its endeavour to secure two main highways boards—one for the South Island and one for the North Island. “ Even the North Island motorists recognise that' the South Island is not getting a fair allocation. The South Island should have a motorists’ representati\*e on the Main Highways Board.” Other speakers supported this view, and it was decided that the association urge that the South Island have at least one other representative on the Main Highways Board. It was decided to record the thanks of the association for the courtesy of the traffic inspectors.
