FORESTRY DELEGATES PRAISE WORK IN OTAGO.

The special train in which the members of the Empire Forestry Conference are touring the Soutl} Island returned to Christchurch at 9.30 last evening from Dunedin. On board it were the sixty-five overseas delegates to the conference and about twelve officers of the New Zealand Forestry Departrrfent. Enthusiasm for the work that is being done in connection with reafforestation in the Dominion was voiced by members of the conference when they returned to Christchurch. The wdrk of the Dunedin City Council was inspected yesterday morning, and surprise was expressed that a comparatively small city’ such as Dunedin could undertake a work of such magnitude, some 5000 acres of trees having been planted. Another overseas ipember of the conference expressed the view that New Zealand possessed great potentialities for the development of an industry which, in the future, should he, able to .supply all the softwood needs of the Dominion. Thus the timber industry would once again command attention as one of the important activities of the country.

The members df the conference left for the West Coast this morning, going by srain to Hokitika. To-mor-row they will motor to Hari Hari, South Westland, and will inspect the natural forests of that area.. They will return to Greymouth to-morrow evening and on Saturday will proceed by motor to Nelson.
