JUBILEE SPIRIT HOLDS RANGIORA.
DINNER GIVEN TO DISTRICT’S PIONEERS.
Over 250 of the pioneers of Rangiora assembled at the Rangiora Parish Hall to-day, when they were tendered a luncheon by the Borough Council. A festive spirit reigned and the settlers were busily engaged in renewing old acquaintances and exchanging reminiscences.
The Mayor, Mr W. J. Rowse, expressed a wish that the pioneers would make the gathering “a real old-time one.” The National Anthem was then sung. The toast-list was:—“The King,” the chairman; “Parliament,” proposed by Mr W. A. Banks, and responded to by the Hon D. Buddo and Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P.; “The Pioneers of Rangiora,” proposed by the Mayor and responded to by Messrs C. I. Jennings, J. W. Foster and C. Leech; “Local Bodies of the District,” proposed by Mr C. W. Bell and responded to by Mr W. Stalker. The business people of the town have entered thoroughly into the spirit of the jubilee and have decorated their premises with greenery, flags, etc. Tonight the town will be brilliantly illuminated with thousands of coloured lamps.
