THE RIDE TURNED OUT TO BE EXPENSIVE.
Norman Bruce Stewart was fined £2 and costs by Mr E. D, Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning for failing to produce a ticket when riding on the train between Timaru and Dunedin. “He had no ticket at all/’ said Sen-ior-Sergeant O’Hara. “He promised to pay at Dunedin, but did not do so. He was written to by the Department, without result. He was interviewed by a police officer and paid 13s lOd, and stlil owes 9s 4d.” “It will be an expensive ride,” saifl the Magistrate. “Will you order the payment of the remaining 9s 4d?” asked the senior sergeant. “No, that seems to be a matter for civil action,” was the reply.
