DIOCESAN SYNOD OPENS OCTOBER 23.

The second annual session of the twenty-fifth Synod of the Diocese of Christchurch is to open in the Provincial Council Chamber at- 4 p.m. on October 23. A Synod service, with procession and sermon, will be held in the Cathedral at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 22; the preacher will be the Rev J. F. poursey. On Tuesday, October 23, there will be Holy, Communion at the Cathedral at 7.30 a.m.; breakfast at the Carlton Cafe at 8.15 for all members of Synod: at 10 a.m.. Matins in the Cathedral; and at 10.30 a.m., a “quiet hour.” At the opening of the session at 4 p.m., the president, his Lordship the Bishop of Christchurch, will deliver his address. Members of Synod and their hosts and hostesses will be the guests of Bishop and Mrs West-Watson at morning tea at 10.45 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, at Bishopscourt. On October 25, there will be a conference of clerg}' only in the Sj’nod room at 10 a.m. The cornmittee of hospitality consists of the Yen. Archdeacon . Haggitt and Mr E. H. S. Hamilton. The wives of the Christchurch clergy, with assistance from the parishes and from the Standing Committee, will provide tea at the Jellicoe Hall bn each evening of the first week of Synod at 6.15 p.m.
