PROPELLORS WILL BE CHANGED WHILE AT BLENHEIM BASE.

ONES USED ON TASMAN FLIGHT BADLY BATTERED So great was the wear and tear on the propellors of the Southern Cross on the flight from Australia that when the machine gets to Blenheim on the return journey, the present “ props ” will be taken off and the ones that were used on the flight from America to Australia will be restored. The propellors are now in Blenheim. The original propellors were taken off the machine before the flight to New Zealand, after having been used for over 7000 miles’ flying. The new propellors were in much worse condition after covering the 1660 miles across the Tasman than the old ones, thus testifying to the stormy conditions which were experienced. . When the original propellors were removed from the machine it was intended that two of them should be sent back to America to the Westinghouse Company’s museum and that the third should be cut in two, each of the co-commanders keeping one blade as a souvenir. This will probably be done when the Southern Cross returns to Sydney.
