BAVIN REGRETS REJECTION OF HIS COAL PROPOSALS.

THINKS MINERS HAVE MISUNDERSTOOD SCHEME. (United Ptess Assn.—By Elect r»# Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received September 26, 10 a.rrt.) SYDNEY. September 26. A conference of all unions engaged in the coalmining industry met to consider the proposals of Mr Bavin, the State Premier, to re-establish the coal industry on. a ge-neral profitable basis. It unanimously rejected Mr Bavin's suggestions, and appointed a committee to make counter-proposals. The Council of the Miners’ Federation subsequently met and passed tha following resolution:—"That this Council is of ihe opinion that the propdtols of the New South Wales Premier for carrying on the coal industry are unworkable from the Federation’s viewpoint., and therefore they cannot be accepted.” Mr Bavin later expressed his deep regret at the rejection Of his proposals. He added that they were mainly formulated for the benefit of the miners and the employees of cognate industries. He said: "I can only assume that there is some misunderstanding regarding the efforts of the Government. In the meantime these efforts will be continued towards ensuring the very necessary reduction in the price of coal, which step cannot be held up by what I consider a very ill-considered action.” —Australian Press Association.
