HAWKING PESTS.
To The Editor. Dear Sir, —As a resident in a Christchurch suburb, I wish to support strongly the protest made by “ Annoyed ” in yesterday's “ Star." against the methods employed by many hawkers and canvassers. This winter they have been a worse pest than ever. Few’ show the slightest consideration for the feelings of busy womenfolk, and they persist in cadging for a sale even when told “No ” repeatedly. Where there is sickness in the house or where women have been alarmed by a previous “ bullying ” experience, the nuisance is only too likely to have grave results on health. I agree with the “ Star ” that hawking should be prohibited altogether. Surely our Labour City Council will protect housewives in this matter. —I am, etc.. CITY NORTH.
