AUSTRALIA MOVES TO STOP DUMPING OF “ DUD ” SHEEP.

NEGOTIATES WITH N.Z. AUTHORITIES. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received September 26, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 26. Drastic action is being taken by the Government Stock Department of Australia to prevent the dumping of inferior stud sheep from New Zealand into the Commonwealth, which at present is the subject of negotiations among the authorities concerned. Correspondence has been received here from the New Zealand Minister of Agriculture stating that steps are being taken to remove the cause of complaint. With a view to protecting breeders in Australia and reputable breeders in New Zealand, the suggestion is made that there should be an export tax of two guineas a head on stud sheep leaving the Dominion, the feeling being that the payment of such a tax would

not be justified on “ dud ” sheep. The outcome of the Australian representations to the New Zealand authorities is awaited.—Australian Press Association.
