Y.M.C.A. DIRECTORS HAVE MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Y.M.C.A. board of directors was held last evening; present—Messrs Hillary (president), Par ton, Goss, Royds, Borrows, Jameson, Johnson, West, Sandall, and the general secretary. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr Stanley Wilkinson was moved, the president stating that this was the formal resolution, letters ol’ sympathy having been sent previously. He stated that the loss was particularly heavy for the Y.M.C.A. as Mr Wilkinson had taken such an interest not only in the local work but also In the national work of the Y.M.C.A. A motion of ss-mpathy with the relatives of the late Mr A. F. Drayton was also carried. The president, stated that he had been approached by the president of the looa.l Rotary Club asking that the general secretary, Mr A. J. M'Eldowne.j', be allowed to act as secretary of the* Dominion Rotary Conference to be held in February, 1929. In view of the help that, the local Rotary Club had always given the Christchurch Y.M.C.A. the president’s action in acceding to the request was confirmed by the board. The reports showed that all the activities of the association were very healthy, special note being taken of the very comprehensive holiday programme arranged l’or the boys during the school holidays. In connection with the boys’ camp it was stated that before long a new camp site would be needed owing to the rapid development of that side of the work and the increased population at Kairaki. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Sandall, Jordan and the president, was appointed to go Into the matter. It was stated that suggestions fer suitable sites would be welcomed. It was also reported that a party of secondary school boys would be going to Akaroa during the holidays and that accommodation had been offered by Miss Jenkins, who had lent her cottage to the party free of charge. The physical report showed that there were .744 enrolled in the gymnasium classes, and that careful pro--parations were being made ' for the display to be held on September 29.
