DRAINAGE BOARD HOLDS MEETING.

The Christchurch Drainage Board met last evening, Mr 11. J. Otley* presiding. There Avere also present— Messrs J. W. Beanland, E. H. S. Hamilton, W. J. Walter, C. S' M’Culiy, C. Hill, W. Large, A. T.-Smith and W. R. Carey-. The pumping station engineer reported that the plant Avas working very satisfactorily, and during the month of July 891,410 tons were pumped to the farm. The quantity pumped during July, 1927, Avas 876,582 tons and 856.673 tons for the corresponding period of 1926. The average depth in the suction tank Avas twel\ T e feet. The riA’er SAveeper continued to do good work, although progress had been slower owing to some A-ery high tides The SAveeper »vas at present about ten chains below M’Bratney’s Road.—The report Ayas adopted. The Auditor-General wrote returning the certified balance-sheets for the years 1927 1925. An application from the flushers in the board’s ser\-iee to be supplied with oilskins was refused. It Avas decided that a letter of thanks be sent to the Bank of New Zealand for their services as sinking fund agent The following tenders tvere accepted ; Morris Street extension, Alan Moore, £306 3s; Holmwood Road branch sewer, V.
