CENTRAL OTAGO INQUIRY INTO IRRIGATION TO HEAR FINAL EVIDENCE.

DUNEDIN, August 21. The final evidence before the committee of inquiry into the Otago Central irrigation scheme is being given today by the Otago Expansion League presi dent, Mr S. B. Macdonald, who urged that the land be classified according to productive value and the water charge be graduated accordingly, that the havoc wrought by over irrigation and bad drainage in Ida Valley be rectified at the Government’s charge: and also that the Agricultural Department should play a more important part in the selection of the irrigable countrv. Races had been constructed in some cases to irrigate land not worth irrigation.
