THE REASON WHY.
To the Editor, Dear Sir, —Now the “business men” will get to understand why Labour romps home in the City Council election polls. Monday’s deputation was a fine example of how not to do it. When we had read so much of the intentions of the promoters we fully expected that this big representative deputation would have been organised so as to have some chance of success What hope had Messrs Gould and Com pany of changing the plans of the Council without providing an alternative scheme? Instead of doing that the deputation sought to sway the opinions of the councillors with fine words, honeyed phrases, contemptuous conduct, and sloppy sentiment. There could be only one result, and they got it.—l am, etc., METHOD.
